A silver Imperial presentation vase-shaped trophy in the late Georgian style,
with flaring foot, angular handles and domed cover, the body chased with laurel
swags beneath a wide band bearing a Cyrillic inscription, with a band of husks
above, the cover with acorn finial and acanthus-leaf decoration - stamped with
Imperial Warrant mark of Fabergé, assay mark of Moscow 1899-1908, inventory o.
11872, height 14 1/2 inches (37 cm). Inscribed: "In Honor of Her Imperial Majesty
Empress Alexandra Feodorovna" and with double headed eagle on the reverse.
One of a large number (cf. next two cat. nos.)of such trophies, part of Fabergé's
obligatory production for the Imperial court. These were awarded mainly as horse-racing
and yachting (cf. Habsburg/Lopato 1993/4, cat. 207) trophies.
