A silver Imperial presentation vase of tapering cylindrical form cast and chased
with swirling bands of scrolling foliage and set with thirteen silver rouble coins
with the profiles of Romanovs monarch from Peter the Great to Alexander III, standing
on four scroll and paw feet - stamped Fabergé, initials of workmaster Julius Rappoport,
assay mark of St. Petersburg before 1899, inventory no. 2779, height 13 1/2 inches
(34.2 cm). Inscribed beneath the lip: "Offert par S. M. Nicholas II à M. Paul
Nadar, Souvenir d' Octobre 1896"
This vase must have been presented by Nicholas II during his visit to France following
the coronation.
